אוֹר זָרֻעַ לַצַּדִּיק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵב שִׂמְחָה:
Light is sown for the righteous,
and gladness for the upright in heart. (Psalm 97:11)
When Adam saw the sun going down for the first time, and darkness enveloping the world, his mind became filled with terror. God then had compassion for Adam and endowed him with the intuition to take two stones – one called Darkness and the other, the Shadow of Death – and rub them together. Thus did Adam discover fire, whereupon he exclaimed, “Blessed be the Creator of light.” (B. Pes 54a; Gen. R. 11:2.) It is a gift from God that we can overcome the fear of darkness and death, and creatively bring new light and a new spirit into the world.
הִנֵּה אֵל יְשׁוּעָתִי, אֶבְטַח וְלֹא אֶפְחָד, כִּי עָזִּי וְזִמְרָת יָהּ יְיָ, וַיְהִי לִי לִישׁוּעָה. וּשְׁאַבְתֶּם מַֽיִם בְּשָׂשׂוֹן, מִמַּעַיְנֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה. לַייָ הַיְשׁוּעָה, עַל עַמְּךָ בִרְכָתֶֽךָ סֶּֽלָה. יְיָ צְבָאוֹת עִמָּֽנוּ, מִשְׂגָּב לָנוּ אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב סֶֽלָה. יְיָ צְבָאוֹת, אַשְרֵי אָדָם בֹּטֵֽחַ בָּךְ. יְיָ הוֹשִֽׁיעָה, הַמֶּֽלֶךְ יַעֲנֵֽנוּ בְיוֹם קָרְאֵֽנוּ. לַיְּהוּדִים הָיְתָה אוֹרָה וְשִׂמְחָה וְשָׂשׂוֹן וִיקָר. כֵּן תִּהְיֶה לָּֽנוּ. כּוֹס יְשׁוּעוֹת אֶשָּׂא, וּבְשֵׁם יְיָ אֶקְרָא.
Hineih eil y'shuati, evtach v'lo efchad, ki ozi v'zimrat yah Adonai, vay'hi li lishuah: Ush'avtem mayim b'sason mima-aynei hayshuah: L’Adonai hayshuah al am'cha virchatecha selah: Adonai tz'va-ot imanu misgav lanu elohei ya-akov selah: Adonai tz'va-ot ashrei adam botei-ach bach: Adonai hoshi-ah hamelech ya-aneinu v'yom kor'einu: Ly'hudim hay'tah orah v'simchah v'sason vikar: Kein tihyeh lanu. Behold, God is my salvation. I am full of trust. I am not afraid.
Truly, the Beloved God is my strength and song. God is always my salvation.
Now joyfully draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:2-3)
Salvation is from the Eternal. Dear God, may Your blessing be upon Your people. (Psalm 3:9)
Adonay Tzevaot, The Great One of Heaven’s Hosts, is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. (Psalm 46:8)
Adonay Tzevaot, O Great One of Heaven’s Hosts, happy is the one who trusts in You! (Psalm 84:13)
Dear God redeem us, O sovereign, answer us whenever we call. (Psalm 20:10)
